Lessons & Inspiration:
Notes From Making Theater During COVID.

The spirit of and tenacity of theater artists, of theater itself, shone during this crises.

July 25th, 2020:

Directing a reading of The Women on Zoom:

35 actors in a live zoom performance.

(It was fabulous. Insane to do, but fabulous.)

This was one of the first of many, many virtual performances I directed or acted in during the pandemic.

There was something very powerful about the determination and strength of theater artists who continued coming together while we had to stay apart, even as we were not able to be in theaters, in an industry  devastated by COVID.

I remain inspired by the spirit of theatre artist's and their strength of will and sheer determination to keep collaborating, to continue creating together - and am immensely grateful for the tenacity of theatre people in staying connected, and supporting our fellow artists in the midst of challenging times.

There is a creative and healing alchemy that happens when we come together in our work - collaboration is much of the magic of theatre.  We become - some call it a family, community or even an ensemble - something wonderful that  is more than the sum of its parts.

"I regard the theater as the greatest of all art forms,
the most immediate way in which a human being can share with another
the sense of what it is to be a human being."

- Oscar Wilde
